Biography

Wenge Chen, Ph.D.

Professor (Level 3) School of Materials Science and Engineering, Xi'an University of Technology

Profile Summary

Wenge Chen (born September 1969) is a Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Xi'an University of Technology (XAUT). He received his B.S. degree from XAUT in 1991 and his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2005. He was appointed Professor in 2008.

His research interests include functional device materials, advanced powder metallurgy and composites, dissimilar material joining and interface characterization, and material modification. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers in journals such as Chemical Engineering Journal, Materials & Design, Polymers, Journal of Alloys and Compounds, Materials Letters, Journal of Materials Science & Technology, and Journal of Materials Processing Technology, with 80+ indexed by SCI/EI.

Professor Chen's pioneering work on "Vertical Sintering Infiltration Technology" for high-voltage electrical contacts significantly improved the arc erosion resistance and service life of critical power grid components, enabling the transition from pneumatic to intelligent circuit breakers in China. This achievement earned him the National Science and Technology Progress Award (Second Class).

He proposed and demonstrated an environmentally friendly, low-cost graphene preparation technology, published as a cover article in the international top journal Chemical Engineering Journal. His current research focuses on hydrogen storage and transportation for new energy applications, including Ti- and Mg-based solid-state hydrogen storage materials and flexible non-metallic pure hydrogen transport pipelines. His graphene-modified PE (polyethylene) pipe material has been applied in petroleum associated gas transport, and he has led the development of multiple group standards.
